Market Update for July 17, 2019



In today's update:

1) Stocks post second straight day of losses as second-quarter earnings become the main focus of concern. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 115.78 or 0.42%, the S&P 500 fell 19.62 or 0.65% while the Nasdaq 100 closed lower by 37.59 or 0.46% and the Russell 2000 finished lower by 11.22 to 0.72%.

In today's update:

1) Another quiet session turned negative after Trump says "long way to go" on trade talks with China. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 23.53 or 0.09%, the S&P 500 fell 10.26 or 0.34% while the Nasdaq -100 closed lower by 35.39 or 0.43% and the Russell 2000 finished higher by 0.17 or 0.01%.

1) Stocks managed to close at record highs once again after an extremely quiet, low-range, low-volume day on Wall Street. 1) The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 hit new record highs after comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell left traders expecting a rate cut in July. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 76.71 or 0.29%, the S&P 500 added 13.44 or 0.45% while the Nasdaq 100 closed higher by 60.80 or 0.75% and the Russell 2000 finished higher by 2.46 or 0.16%.
