Market Update for April 29, 2019
In today's update:
1) Stocks closed modestly higher on Monday ahead of another busy week for earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 11.06 or 0.04%, the S&P 500 added 3.15 or 0.11% while the Nasdaq 100 closed higher by 15.45 or 0.19% and the Russell 2000 finished higher by 6.54 or 0.41%.
2) Crude Oil Futures managed to close slightly higher after Friday's strong sell-off while Gold Futures dropped $7.30 or 0.57% despite a pullback in the U.S. dollar. The Bond market finished today lower and the yield on the 10-year Treasury Note settled at 2.526%.
3) Alphabet (GOOGL) stock hit a new all-time high of $1296.97 during today's regular trading session but is trading significantly lower after hours. GOOGL's first-quarter earnings were $10.90 per share versus expectations of $10.61 per share but revenue came in much lighter than expected for all of its major sales categories.
