Market Update for January 1, 2019
In Today's Update:
1) Wall Street closed Monday's trading session with gains but finished the year with its worst performance in a decade. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 265.06 or 1.15%, the S&P 500 added 21.11 or 0.85% while the Nasdaq 100 closed higher by 50.76 or 0.77% and the Russell 2000 finished higher by 10.64 or 0.79%.
2) Crude Oil Futures gained $0.48 or 1.06% on Monday but posted a 25% loss for the year while Gold Futures added $1.70 or 0.13% but ended the year with its first annual decline since 2015. The Bond market advanced and the yield on the 10-year treasury note closed at 2.685%.
3) The 2018 trading year certainly ended on a sour note, but while traders and investors look forward to a fresh start in 2019, the risk for more downside remains high. In today's video, we will discuss the three biggest risks facing the equity markets in the year ahead.
