In Today's Update:
1) Stocks closed higher for the week but closed mostly lower on Friday on growing concerns over the government shutdown. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 5.97 or 0.02%, the S&P 500 fell 0.38 or 0.01% while the Nasdaq 100 closed lower by 14.59 or 0.21% and the Russell 2000 finished higher by 1.95 or 0.14%.
2) Crude Oil Futures broke a nine-day win streak and closed lower by $0.89 or 1.69% while Gold Futures closed slightly higher and posted gains for the fourth straight week. The Bond market also posted gains on Friday and the yield on the 10-year treasury note finished the week at 2.704%.
3) Earnings season is upon us once again and kicks off with reports from big name companies in both the Banking and Technology sectors. Citigroup (C) reports before market open on Monday followed by JP Morgan (JPM) and Wells Fargo (WFC) on Tuesday while Netflix (NFLX) reports on Thursday. All of these will be very closely watched by market participants.
